138 steps to romance

Spanish Steps, Rome, Italy

At the end of his life, John Keats moved to Rome and lived in a villa, to the right of the Spanish Steps, now a museum commemorating Romantic Poetry.

Romantic Poetry is characterized by vivid imagery, nature, emotions, melancholy, nostalgia, the sublime, and thrives on imagination.

You could say my poetry is influenced by Romanticism. I was there on the Spanish Steps last year, unbeknownst to me that Keats once lived just steps away.

How could I have missed this–a chance encounter with a Romantic Poet. This is not the kind of thing they tell you in a tourist’s brochure.

It was after I took this picture and researched the history of the Spanish Steps that I found out Keats lived right there.

Here is one of my favorite lines from his poetry:

“Bright star, would I were stedfast as thou art…”

Would I.
