The Get Away Taxi

She stepped out of his life and stepped into a cab. Just like that, she was free. She left all the untruths behind. On her way to open roads, new dreams, and unknown destinations. With less to carry. With more questions than answers. The only thing that was certain is that she would never look back. And that was a great start.

Strawberry Moon*

The moon is reddish tonight-

is it blushing

with anticipation,

to be dipped

in chocolate?

Who knew it could be

so delicious

and oh so mysterious

on this hot, hot

first day of Summer.

I may just have it

for dessert

served on a silver platter

of sparkling stars.

*This is the first time in 50 years since the Summer of Love in 1967 that we have a full moon on the Summer Solstice–reddish, believed to symbolize ripening fruit.

Stealing Time

If I could steal time, I would go back to that summer day long ago when we spent the morning together, collecting shells of memories, on that far away beach I had walked on as a child. Reminiscing, I thought of you today, of the many mornings I missed, and my eyes turned as blue as the Mediterranean. If I could steal time, I would go back to that summer day long ago and walk with you once more, Father.
