What is it about the stars that evokes such mystery and wonder: is it the way they sparkle at night lighting up the sky; the romanticism they convey; or the allure of their unattainability?

Stars seem so close and yet so distant–inducing a longing as if for unrequited love. They can bring about feelings of happiness or melancholy or anything in between. Stars are the perfect muse for creativity.

Think of the beautiful painting The Starry Night by Van Gogh; or the bittersweet verses in the poem by Neruda Tonight I can Write the Saddest Lines: “the night is shattered and the blue stars shiver in the distance”; or the countless songs written about them.

Yet stars are never a cliché. People still wish upon falling stars; kiss under starlit skies. Stargazing is for poets, dreamers and lovers–for those who take the time to look up at the sky on a clear night and ponder: what is it about the stars?
